Christmas Countdown

October 22, 2017

Many years ago I read the book The 13th Day of Christmas by Jason F. Wright.  I fell in love with story and it become one of my favorite Christmas Stories.  I tend to read it every Christmas…..  my summary…. The 12 days of Christmas with a twist.

After I read the story, I wanted a Christmas Countdown that had the final date of December 26th.  (You have to read the story to know exactly why.)  I decided I wanted something for my kitchen, since it is also the place I usually have my 12 days of Christmas Tree (and decorations).

I decided to find an old pan from a thrift shop (better cost than purchasing a new pan)!  Then I cut out a Christmas Tree with my Cricut using green vinyl.  I used Cricut Cartridge Designer’s Calendar (pg 39).  Cricut has lots of ideas of trees to cut out so you pick the one that works best for the pan you select.  I put the green on the bottom side of the pan.

I had some scrap book Christmas felt stickers that I hot glued onto the pan.  Then I cut ribbon to hang the pan on the wall.  Just to give it an extra touch, I added the present to the ribbon.

Then it was time to figure out how to put the countdown on the tree.  I had another kit that had a countdown but I didn’t love how it worked, so I used the numbers from the kit.  For your kit, you could cut out your own numbers.  Then I cut out an ornament from Cricut Cartridge Joys of the Season.  Again, Cricut has a few cartridges with different types of ornaments.  Great part of picking your favorites and making it your own.  I then hot glued a magnet on the back of the ornament.  I used the magnets that you cut as you go, but I would not recommend finding the magnets that have adhesive on them already. These other magnets will make the ornaments pop off the board.

To store all the ornaments I place them on the front side of the pan.

As you can see adding the ornaments each day makes the countdown a way to decorate the tree.

The final touch is to add the 26th.  Of course, you can even make it a 25 if you want to.  Again, Cricut has many options for stars.  The 26th I cut using Cricut Cartridge Designer’s Calendar.
